Introduction to Communication Systems (ECE 132A)

Course Description:

This is a junior- year undergraduate class introducing the principles of (digital) communications. This course develops the basic principles of (digital) communications, with an emphasis on the foundational ideas, with examples of applications of these ideas to real systems. Topics include: basic hypothesis testing, receiver design for AWGN channels, signal design trade-offs, transmit pulse design, basics of error correction coding (block and convolutional codes), transmission over inter-symbol interference (ISI) channels, introduction to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and basics of wireless communications.

This course was taught at UCLA in Winter 2011-12, Winter 2012-13, Winter 2013-14, Winter 2014-15, Winter 2015-16, and Winter 2018-19.
