Information Theory (ECE 231A)

Course Description:

This is a beginning level graduate class with the goal to introduce the students to the principles of information theory. These include a fundamental understanding of data compression and reliable communication over noisy channels. The course introduces the concepts of entropy, mutual information, channel capacity and rate-distortion, which are the fundamental basis of the mathematical theory of signal representation, transmission, learning and security.

This course was taught at UCLA in Fall 2014, Fall 2015, Fall 2016, Fall 2017, and Fall 2018.
