Information theory and coding
Course Description:
This class is aimed at 7th or 9th-semester undergraduate students and first-year Master’s students with the goal of introducing basic principles of information theory. These include a fundamental understanding of data compression and reliable communication over noisy channels. The course introduces the concepts of entropy, mutual information, and channel capacity, which are the fundamental basis of the mathematical theory of communication.
This course was taught at EPFL in Fall 2008 and Fall 2009.
